Alien Encounter
Say hello to E.T., according to the geeks at Gizmodo (btw, why not geekmodo?) NASA has found something they do not know what it is or originates from.

Coffin Counter
Reminds me of an arcade game in old Amiga-days. Nevertheless, it's real and not much fun at all: a visualisation of Israeli and Palestinian deaths in the ongoing conflict.
Quote of the day
"When the Silent Film Industry calls, your phone doesn’t ring. You just have to know when to pick it up."

Desktop 3D Scanner
At the moment, Real-View 3-D is just an announcement. Nevertheless, the scanner looks quite promising. More information can be found at Designboom.

Shake it, Baby!
Wow, the second shake-to-update application after the nice (but quite far from perfect) Facebook client for iPhone/iPod. FontShop offers a nice font application, pretty good way to sell their font portfolio. Here it is... FontShuffle (Description) - Download link is here
After 1:20 min of testing - what I like: screenshot option. What sucks: the kerning. And also the need to shuffle instead of offering scrolling, too. I'd also like to be able to zoom.

Genius at Work
Wow. Simply amazing - Claudio Abbado and Roberto Benigni. Peter and the wolf. Don't miss part 4 with Lorenza Borrani and Benigni dancing. She definitly rocks, I've met her in Barcelona and it's nice to see this combination of humbleness and true genius in one woman.

Cellphone Madness
Well, this doesn't look too nice - have a look at this article of PopScience.com about the correlation of cellphone use and some forms of cancer. Via Gizmodo.

Airport Express, please
Apple has been quite, well, ignorant when it comes to supporting the combination of iPod/iPhone and their Airport Express wireless router with iTunes music support. At 169 Dollars Audioengine's W2 Premium Wireless Adapter is far from cheap but basically does the same job (while not being limited to iTunes). (via Macworld)

Genocide
IHT published an article by Madeleine K. Albright and William S. Cohen called Never again. The text relates to the 60th anniversary of the Convention of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. I stumbled upon it while watching "Scream Bloody Murder", a CNN-documentary on the same topic.

Screenshot Magic
Apple's pro tips section features a really handy shortcut for creating per-window screenshots. The finger-breaking Shift-Cmd-4-and-then-Space shortcut changes the screenshot cursor to a camera. Simply select the desired window and click on it - voilá, PNG of the uncluttered window right on your desktop.
Style?
Tata is sponsoring Ferrari. Somehow weird. What's next? Wiener Linien supporting the America's Cup?

It's Time to Say Goodbye to Harddisks
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/Toshiba-kuendigt-schnelle-MLC-SSDs-mit-512-GByte-an--/meldung/120664 (German)
Toshiba's 512 GByte SSD could be a nice option to replace my RAID0 drives in the Mac Pro. 240 MB/s reading, 200 MB/s writing - really nice. Another idea could be to put one of these babies into an eSATA / FW800 casing and use it as a roaming profile for both stationary Macs and the notebooks.

Quite a lot of Money
Well, it's always nice to know somebody really, really rich (at least I imagine). Bettencourt-Schuller's 17 BILLION Euro are quite a lot, I'd say. And she was giving away 1 billion to a star photographer...

Two Lists Apart - Articles on Content
Ouch, that hurts. Frankenstein reloaded.
http://www.heise.de/tr/Schoenheit-im-Auge-des-Algorithmus--/artikel/120533 is an article (German) about new software algorithms to kind of optimize faces. Well, beauty is in the eyes of the clone warriors... Somewhat scary, at least for pixel movers like myself. Maybe time to think one step further.

Included are some examples - in fact, the software really works quite well. A similar solution to get rid of all the ugly people on your family photos is available for Windows PCs and might come handy for the Christmas images :P

The Sex Life of Robots

Animation film of Michael Sullivan, showing a kind of robot porno movie. Very interesting aesthetics, I like it. And I like this guy - Neil Gaiman. I LOVE his stories, especially Coraline. Very creative author. See his interview @ http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid4941044001/bclid1745181320/bctid1887799608.

Making of BMW Z4 Video
http://www.wallpaper.com/cars/behind-the-scenes-bmw-z4-ad-shoot/2937
Wallpaper* shows the making of a BMW Z4 piece of art - the advertising company used an Z4 equipped with color-tanks to paint on a huge white floor. Like Manta Manta, only cooler.
